Brett Smiley, Democratic candidate for Mayor of Providence, is featured in a Providence Journal article about addressing crime and violence in the city.

Brett Smiley, a candidate for mayor who worked as a top aide to Gina Raimondo during her time as governor, called the current situation in Providence “an all-of-the-above moment” requiring both short- and long-term solutions. That includes summer jobs for youth, expanded hours at recreational centers, affordable housing and community policing.

“One of the things that would be most important to me is rebuilding trust in the Providence Police Department, kind of in all directions. Obviously there’s a part of the community that doesn’t trust the police, but also the police don’t feel like they have the trust and confidence of the city administration.”
